I live the life John is describing (videos on Saturday night, never going out to reustarants, bars, etc, no vacations) and I do save money. My point is that this behavior is very unusual among people my age from what I can tell and that even if you adopt this lifestyle, whereas 20 yrs ago you could have saved a downpayment in a year or two, currently with prices being so high I think it takes 3-5 yrs. So if we are really going back to 20% downpayment as the minimum, housing is going to be absolutely dead for a lot longer than I thought |
